Contents

“Automotive Legislation Online” (ALO) is a database of official laws, regulations, guidelines and directives, as well as the corresponding draft papers, governing the design, construction, approval and use of motor vehicles on both a domestic and international level. The documents in the database are either final rules, drafts, tables or other reference material.

Documents

The documents in the database are either final rules, drafts, tables or other reference material. These are provided as consolidated versions, which means that amendments are integrated in the full text version of the original document. The full-text documents contain markings of amended and/or new text parts.

Vehicle Categories:

The database includes regulations/drafts for passenger cars, trucks, buses and vehicle combinations (no motorcycles, agricultural tractors or trailers).

Markets:

The database covers all regulated countries of the world, including supranational legislation like EU Directives and UNECE Regulations. The documentation process follows priorities, i.e. not all countries are equally up-to-date and not all topics include legal texts of all markets. In general, the legislation of markets that are more frequently required by users tends to be the most up-to-date.

Terminology Database

A cross-language search for terms extracted from automotive legislation can be carried out in the Terminology Database.

Navigation:

In the Navigation Panel on the left side of the database you can define a differentiated search by selecting
various filter criteria (New in ALO, Topics, Markets, Vehicle Categories, Further Criteria). The filter criteria
can be combined and used together. The respective filter selection can be saved, saved filters can be opened and edited via a menu. All the terms entered in the respective text entry boxes are linked using AND operations. The search is effected as from the first letter entered. A search for substrings is supported, upper and lower case spelling is ignored.

Full-Text Search:

The function “Full-Text Search” is a search through the contents of documents and files and goes through the information classes “Regulations” and “Overviews”. Substring search and stemming are supported. In order to limit the number of search results the “Full-Text Search” can be combined with the filters of the navigation panel.

Terminology Database:

The filter criterion Terminology Search includes the fields Search Term, Language and Source (Regulation Number). In addition, you can use the criterion Search also in definition/context in order to search for terms in their definition and/or context fields. Similar to the Full-Text Search function substring search and stemming are supported. Furthermore, the search can be combined with previously set filters.

Database updates:

The database is updated on a daily basis. The regulations of the most important markets (EU, UNECE, USA/Canada, BRIC states, Japan, Australia etc.) are treated with riority.

ALO Monthly Update:

Once a month ALO inform about the most important changes in vehicle regulations in ALO. This summary is published in the database and is also provided by email.
